Based on the 1863 salon of the same name, “Salon des Refusés” (“Exhibition of Rejects”) is an exhibition of rejected or unfavorably criticized work from all School of Art disciplines at CSULB. This exhibit is a tribute to the artists featured in the original 1863 salon and aims to allow viewers to witness and appreciate the complexity and brilliance of human creative potential. Work featured will include paintings & drawings, hand-pulled prints, photography, sculpture, graphic designs and illustrations, as well as works in metal, wood, and ceramics.

Opening receptions for exhibitions are Sundays from 5-7pm. Weekday viewing hours are 12-5pm Monday through Thursday. The galleries are also open Wednesday evenings from 5-7pm.

The Max L. Gatov Gallery is in building FA-3. Parking on campus is available to the general public in all student lots when a $5 day pass is purchased. Day passes are available at the CSULB Parking Office or through the Yellow Kiosks located near the entrances of each parking lot. Patron parking outside of performance venues is available for $5 in attended lots on the afternoon or evening of performances. Additional information is available at http://www.csulb.edu/maps.

OPPORTUNITY:

Welcome back everyone! My name is Andre Stevenson. I am a BFA Printmaking Senior and I want to let you all know about an opportunity to take control of the COTA gallery space this fall. I am the Coordinator for this years Salon des Refusés (ray-few-say). If you didn’t already know, the historical Salon des Refusés (Exhibition of Rejects) was a significant exhibition because it recognized the artists right to exhibit work that wasn’t concerned with meeting institutional standards and it was a great opportunity for courageous independent artists to have their work viewed and critiqued and develop their careers. This is an open call; work can be old or new, any style, in any medium, and made at any point in time. Work not featured in this years Insights exhibition as well as work from all Art Education, Art History, Studio BA majors, and COTA staff and faculty is especially welcomed. Pieces can be framed or unframed and all work submitted will be accepted on a space available basis. Our exhibition opens in half of the Gatov space on October 19th, so the sooner you submit your work the better.Review the gallery guidelines for installation and clean-up at this link (http://www.art.csulb.edu/students/gallery_guidelines/home/) and start considering which piece of your work you’d like to feature. Keep up to date, ask any questions that you may have, and submit your work on our Facebook group at this address: http://www.tinyurl.com/n79oy82

We will need volunteers to help with installation and clean-up as well as gallery monitors throughout the week of October 19th, so if you’re interested and can help, contact me ASAP at apstevenso2@gmail.com or in the Facebook group.
Looking forward to working together!
